A narrative thangka illustrating the story of Drowa Zangmo འགྲོ་བ་བཟང་མོ (Wylie ’gro ba bzang mo). An unmounted thangka with no cloth surround. Image (melong) size approx 73 x 51 cm. Finely detailed. Several cracks due to creasing, some staining and substantial paint loss on the left side from usage but otherwise mostly readable. Central figure of Green Tara. This thangka is identical to the modern Drowa Zangmo thangka in the same collection in terms of its overall visual and narrative structure (see EAP1016_DMLG_Tnka-6). The colours differ substantially and some figures are drawn differently but the placement of figures, objects and topograhic features are almost identical. In this way, the modern thangka aids substantially in the reading of the older painting where much of the imagery on the left hand edge has been lost . . Creation dates: Mid 19th century. Custodial history: An object donated to Dolma Ling nunnery by Buchen Gyurme. It probably belonged to one of three Lama Manipa who had fled from Tibet and who continued to perform within the exile Tibetan communities in India and Nepal. These manipa were Buchen Gyurme (Wylie ’Gyur med), Buchen Norgye (Wylie Nor rgyas), and Buchen Passang (Wylie Pa sangs) . The thangka's provenance prior to its deposit at Dolma Ling is unknown. Extent and format of original material: One narrative scroll painting / thangka. Owner(s) of original material: Dolma Ling Nunnery.
