An unidentified narrative thangka. Perhaps illustrating the story of Gelongma Palmo དགེ་སློང་མ་དཔལ་མོ (Wylie dGe slong ma dpal mo). Size including the cloth surround 143 x 78 cm. 82.5 cm wide at the bottom. Image (melong) size 74 x 53 cm. Age 100-150 years. Finely detailed and with some paint loss substantial creasing. staining and darkening of the overall image from use. Central figure of eight armed Chenresig.. Creation dates: Late 19th / Early 20th century. Custodial history: An object donated to Dolma Ling nunnery by Buchen Gyurme. It probably belonged to one of three Lama Manipa who had fled from Tibet and who continued to perform within the exile Tibetan communities in India and Nepal. These manipa were Buchen Gyurme (Wylie ’Gyur med), Buchen Norgye (Wylie Nor rgyas), and Buchen Passang (Wylie Pa sangs) . This thangka was indentified by Tsering Drolma manipa, the daughter of the late Buchen Passang as having belonged to her father and was brought to India from Tibet.
