Aims and objectives
Following a successful pilot project to explore and digitise the historical archives of two monasteries of cloistered nuns in the city of Lima, this project aims at continuing surveying and digitising the archives of three other monasteries. Female monasteries were key institutions that housed women of different social backgrounds. Lima's convents housed women of diverse social and ethnic backgrounds. Due to the nature of these institutions, their archives are not accessible to scholars. This project will put at the reach of researchers a wealth of materials documenting the daily lives of religious women from the seventeenth to the mid-nineteenth centuries.
