Aims and objectives
The project aimed to digitise a collection of newspapers published during the colonial period in Malawi. Specifically the project is targeting to digitise 25,000 images from four main newspapers namely the Central African Planter, Central African Times, British Times and Nyasaland Times published between 1895 and 1955.
Outcomes
The project digitised 15,120 newspaper images dating from 1938 to 1963. The material digitised covers a rich history of Malawi, then called Nyasaland. newspapers digitised were Bwalo La Nyasaland, Msimbi, Nkhani Za Dowa, Nkhani Za Nyasaland, the Daily News weekend edition and Nyasaland Times.
