Archives of the Jewish Community of Curaçao (JCoC) (EAP1539)

Aims and objectives

The archives of the Jewish Community of Curaçao (JCoC) spans from the early 18th to mid-20th centuries. Materials in it touch upon every aspect of the community’s nearly 400-years presence on the island. They are important congregational, genealogical and historical records of exceptional research value, not only for the history of the Jewish community of Curaçao, but also for Dutch history and Atlantic world history. They consist of various correspondence, birth, wedding, and death registers, minutes, membership lists, religious documents (such as marriage contracts (ketubot), ceremonial texts, etc.), and other material that paint a vivid picture of the community’s life.
