Jangipur Sambada Newspaper Collection

A weekly Newspaper, “Jangipur Sambada”, used to be published from Raghunathganj, Murshidabad in West Bengal, India. The CSSSC team has digitized all extant issues of the newspaper. In all, 4242 issues were copied and a total of 18626 digital images have been generated. Custodial history: The local weekly newspaper, Jangipur Sambad was first published in 1914 by the eminent Bangla litterateur Saratchandra Pandit (1861-1968) from Raghunathganj, a small town in Murshidabad district, West Bengal. It ran for over hundred years until its closure in 2014. Saratchandra Pandit (better known by the sobriquet “Dadathakur” and by his nom de plume, “Bidushak”) was a distinguished journalist who excelled in the composition of humorous and satirical poems. Anuttam Pandit, grandson of Dadathakur was the last editor cum publsher of the newspwper and he granted all necessary permission for open access under CC0, also facilitate the work of digitisation at his private residence.
